Dr Jeremy Pearson

My academic qualifications include a Professional Doctorate, gained at the University of Sunderland and a BA (Hons) in Further Education and Training from Northumbria University.

Professionally, after a 30-year career in policing, I have a significant background in the field of organisational ethics and have led large scale counter corruption and misconduct enquiries as well as possessing extensive experience in both the overt and covert investigation of serious and organised criminality.

I am a former Head of the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) International Crime Coordination Centre (ICCC) and have contributed to community safety across the UK by delivering innovative strategic solutions to the national threat posed by international criminality.

Prior to the UK's exit from the EU, I led the UK police contingency planning team, working alongside colleagues from the National Crime Agency (NCA), the Home Office and policing agencies across Europe.

As a former Detective Superintendent, my policing career spans the following areas: International Criminality, Serious and Organised Crime investigation, Critical Incident and Firearms Command, Intelligence Management, Professional Standards and Counter-Corruption, Investigative Skills Training, Corporate Development, Inspection (internal audit and scrutiny), Criminal Justice as well as Public Protection and Safeguarding.

As an Independent Lead Reviewer, I have experience of conducting Local Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews and most recently led a review into the circumstances surrounding the attempted murder of a child. This review was conducted on behalf of a Safeguarding Children Partnership based in the North East of England and included recommendations for improvement in a number of statutory safeguarding agencies.
