Head of Tourism, Hospitality and Events

In 2006, following successful completion of a PhD from Durham University, that considered the effectiveness of performance measurement in local governance, I began employment at the University of Sunderland in the Tourism department. Since then I have led and developed our undergraduate Tourism Management, International Tourism and Hospitality Management and Events Management degree programmes at our campuses in Sunderland, London and Hong Kong and with our partners in Malaysia (SEGi) and Singapore (MDIS).

In 2013 I was appointed Head of Tourism, Hospitality and Events. Since then we have consistently achieved excellent results in the National Student Survey and we have recently been ranked the 4th best Tourism, Hospitality and Events department in the country according to the Guardian University League Tables 2018.

My research interests include Tourism in the Developing World and Poorism, and I have succesfully supervised 6 PhDs.

I am a travel enthusiast and have enjoyed hospitality and events in 60 countries in all continents.
