How staff and students can get involved with achieving a sustainable environment.
We are working hard to achieve our sustainability goals, but to do this we need the help of the whole university. There are many ways that staff and students can get involved and make a difference.
Hedgehogs should now be hibernating, so if you see any hoglets without hedgehogs it could be an orphan. Our “Autumn Orphans” campaign provides information on what to do if you spot a hoglet out in the open.
Hedgehog Friendly Campus is run by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society. To find out more about hedgehogs and Hedgehog Friendly Campus, please visit the British Hedgehog Preservation Society website.

Around our teaching buildings, offices and catering outlets you will see our segregated recycling bins. Please help us improve by recycling as much as you can. For more general information on recycling, visit the Recycle Now website.
Warp IT
Warp IT is an online portal where you can find or post unwanted resources such as furniture and office equipment to reduce spend, waste and supply chain environmental impacts. Contact warpit@sunderland.ac.uk for further information.
To achieve our goals in sustainability, we need the help of the whole university and we're looking for volunteers; people who want to make a difference, people with ideas, people who can engage and help the University make a positive environmental impact.
We are hoping for wide representation from across the University, with staff and students from any Faculty or Service welcome to help us tackle climate change. The whole university community is key to the culture of sustainable development.
Our six sustainability themes are shown in the table below and we need a dedicated team on board to support and drive them forward.
Are you passionate about environmental sustainability? Do you have ideas which will help the University to improve sustainability and make a positive difference to the environment? If the answer is yes, and you would like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. Please register your interest, thoughts and ideas by contacting Business Support Assistant, Joanne Laughlin: joanne.laughlin@sunderland.ac.uk.
