What is a KTP?
A Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) is a dynamic collaboration between a university, a business, and a graduate. Designed to benefit all parties, KTPs help companies access specialist resources, funding, and academic expertise to solve strategic innovation challenges.
By leveraging advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, advanced materials, and formulation science, KTPs drive the development of new products, services, and processes, and support entry into new markets.
What are the benefits of a KTP?
The benefits of a KTP may include:
- Increased annual profits and long-term business growth
- Enhanced operational performance and workplace culture
- Recruitment, development, and retention of future business leaders
- Reduced risk in adopting new technologies and capabilities
- Introduction of new processes and upskilling of existing staff
- Informed decision-making for future investment in research and development.
"Sales and revenue have increased every month due to the KTP outcome, as well as customer satisfaction. A win-win partnership for businesses!"
Is my business eligible for a KTP?
For the partnership to work, your business must:
- Be registered in the UK
- Have a human resource and financial infrastructure in place to support the KTP associate and the project over the two years, and potentially beyond that
- Demonstrate the ability to support its contribution to the project financially and have the resources to fund further development of the new capabilities. (Typically £30k per annum is invested into the project).
How does the KTP process work?
To get started, contact us by filling out the form at the bottom of this page. We’ll work with you to refine your project’s objectives, then collaborate on a joint funding application to Innovate UK. Once approved, we’ll support the recruitment of a skilled Associate and guide you through the project delivery with hands-on support from our KTP team and academic experts.
Management Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (mKTPs)
While KTPs traditionally focus on driving innovation through technical, product, or service development, mKTPs aim to improve management practices within a company.
I'm a graduate: what do I need to know about KTPs?
To apply for a KTP, you’ll usually need a 2:1 degree in a relevant subject. Some roles may also ask for a master’s or PhD.
"It was a fantastic opportunity for me to undertake a massive project and learn how to become agile in today’s high demanding market."
