Topic - Talks and Lectures, Schools and Colleges

Join us for a powerful and thought-provoking interdisciplinary event exploring the tragic case of Alice Ruggles, a young woman murdered in 2016 by her ex-partner following a duration of sustained stalking and harassment. This case highlights the dangers of stalking, the challenges victims face in seeking protection, and the importance of legal and policing responses to such crimes.

This event brings together experts from our Journalism, Law, Policing and Criminology courses to examine the case from multiple perspectives—offering critical insight into how such crimes are investigated, prosecuted, reported in the media, and understood in broader social and legal contexts.

Participants will leave with a comprehensive understanding of crime, investigation, and reporting processes. They'll gain practical insights into the challenges faced by law enforcement, legal professionals, and journalists, while also understanding how media coverage can influence both public opinion and the legal proceedings of a criminal case.
