Continuing the School of Business Guest Lecture Series, Alumni and Charity Founder, Sergio Petrucci, joins us to share how his successful career in business changed direction following the birth of his two children.
My name is Sergio Petrucci and I graduated from University of Sunderland' Business School in 1999. I was born and bred in Sunderland, a city I’m proud to call “my” Sunderland, where I was brought up on strong family values, working in my father’s business from 10 years old gaining plenty of experience in his hair salons and then in his successful clothing retail business.
After completing my degree I decided to take a different path away from the family business and took on a marketing role in Reg Vardy, a large motor retailer in the UK, learning and gaining experience in various roles before working on the sales floor in a FIAT & Alfa Romeo franchise! With a name like mine surely I could sell an Italian car? And I did around 2000 of them, each and every one of them sold with the values instilled in me from a young age. However all good things come to an end and after nearly 10 years I decided to pursue a career in media advertising sales working for a local radio station where I’d smash revenue targets year after year and it was during this time my wife and I welcomed 2 wonderful children into the world, Enzo and Luna, however my little girl Luna was born with 2 holes in her heart and that’s where my story really begins…
