Professor Amal Ali Elkordy

In this lecture, Professor Amal Ali Elkordy will reflect on her professional experiences that enabled her to progress on to Professorship.

Professor Elkordy has a degree in Pharmacy and an MPhil in Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of Tanta, Egypt. She completed her PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology from the School of Pharmacy, University of Bradford.

In 2006, she was appointed as a Lecturer in Pharmaceutics at the University of Sunderland where she was later promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2009; Reader in 2013 and then Professor in 2019.

In this lecture, Professor Amal Ali Elkordy will reflect on her professional experiences that enabled her to progress on to Professorship. The talk will also highlight how formulation scientists/researchers can help in solving challenges (short and long term) the pharmaceutical industry faces to transit drug candidates from laboratories into medicines used in clinics. Pharmaceutical formulation scientists have knowledge not only for designing the suitable dosage forms (conventional and novel) but also for the manufacturing of medicines to exert their biological effects safely and effectively.

Case studies based on successful completion of PhD research will explore how pharmaceutical formulation is a core and an integral part of this transition. Therefore, a plan will be sought and constructed for sustainability and enhancement of formulation research.

The lecture “The Ladder to Professorship: How important is pharmaceutical formulations” takes place on Monday 24 February at 6pm at Prospect Building, room 009, St Peter’s Campus, Sunderland, SR6 0DD.

Refreshments will be served from 5.30pm in Prospect Building.

University of Sunderland’s Professorial Lecture Series provides a platform to showcase and celebrate the University’s new professors. Each lecture represents a significant milestone in an academic’s career and is an opportunity for each professor to present an overview of their academic contributions so far and their future plans, while also introducing their work to a wider audience.
