Dr Marion Phillips was Sunderland's First female MP, elected in 1929. A heritage plaque celebrating her life and work will be unveiled at 18 Foyle Street.
She was an active member of the Labour party, campaigning for workers' rights and women's rights, and was particularly active in the North East during the General Strike, where she helped local families.

Reception event - 3.10pm:
Following the unveiling, a reception will be held at Pop Recs (170 High Street West) at approximately 3.10pm, where Bridget Phillipson, MP for Sunderland South and Washington, will be present to say a few words about women in politics in the 21st century.
