Our time is mainly characterized from substantial uncertainty, since risks and crises are dramatically increasing. This creates high levels of liquidity and instability in both economy and society. In terms of economic earnings, tourism is considered as the most significant sector worldwide, whilst it is extremely susceptible in crises and disasters. Thus, risk and crisis management are of utmost importance for the further development of tourism and hospitality.
This professorial lecture outlines my research focus in the field of risks and crises in tourism and hospitality. It includes the main highlights of my research involvement during the last 15 years. It also pinpoints the current and future research prospects in crisis management and communications.
