This special showing ‘The Old Oak’ will include members of the cast who will be happy to answer your questions.
Inspired in part by writer Paul Laverty’s work with refugee groups in Sunderland, and directed by Ken Loach (‘I, Daniel Blake’, ‘Kes’) the film tells the story of The Old Oak, the last remaining pub in a mining community in the north-east. Houses are cheap and available, making it an ideal location for Syrian refugees.
The film follows the story of the friendship between landlord TJ and young Syrian photographer Yara, and how together they try to make the two communities understand each other.
