Dare to discover the darker side of Criminology, Psychology, and Film and Media in a night of eerie yet enlightening talks.

Join us for a Halloween-themed evening of spine-tingling sessions led by subject experts, as we unravel the mysteries of crime, culture, and belief. From haunted minds to sinister screen stories, this is no ordinary academic event — it's where the chilling meets the compelling.

  • Criminology: Crimes Against the Dead

This session will investigate historical and contemporary crimes committed against the deceased, from 19th-century body snatchers and grave robbers to the modern global organ trade. It will consider how criminology provides the tools to analyse these disturbing practices within their social and historical contexts.

  • Film and Media: Monsters in the 21st Century

Exploring the enduring cultural power of the monster, this session will examine how film, television, and video games continue to reinvent and reimagine monstrous figures. From light-hearted curiosities to destructive forces, it will reflect on why monsters remain such compelling media icons for audiences worldwide.

  • Psychology: The Psychology of Ghosts

Why do many people report belief in ghosts and other supernatural entities? This session will delve into psychological perspectives on paranormal belief, including biological, and personality-based explanations, to shed light on one of humanity’s most persistent fascinations.

Delivered by university academics, these creepy but captivating talks will give you a taste of what it’s like to study at degree level while exploring some fascinating and unsettling topics, ideal for anyone interested in Psychology, Film and Media, and Criminology.

There will also be an opportunity to participate in a live Q&A and put your questions forward to our subject experts.

Prepare to be intrigued, disturbed, and inspired…
