If you have applied for a course that requires a DBS check, for example to enable you to go out on placement, you'll need to have an enhanced DBS check and won't be able to go on placement until this has cleared.
Once you have firmed your offer, you'll receive an email about the DBS process around 5-6 months before your start date. The DBS process is not difficult but it can take some time, so it's best to get started as soon as you receive your email.
DBS update service
If you're part of the DBS update service, your subscription is up to date and you already have a DBS certificate, please take a photograph of the front and back of the certificate and send as an attachment via email to admissions.confidential@sunderland.ac.uk.
To take advantage of the update service, your certificate needs to be classified as 'Enhanced' and workforce must be listed as 'Adult and Child'. If you have any queries, please email us at admissions.confidential@sunderland.ac.uk.
How to complete your DBS
Our DBS supplier, Verifile, will send you an email with all the details you need to complete your DBS.
Verifile will give you instructions to log into their system and complete your personal details and information. The process can take some time, so it is best to do this quickly.
To complete the process, you'll need your passport or driving licence and 5-year address history including dates when you moved in/out. Please make sure that you upload your documents to Verifile as this is needed before your identity can be confirmed.
Student Administration will then be in contact to arrange an ID check appointment to be held via Skype. Once your ID has been verified your DBS application will be processed.
Once completed, your Disclosure Statement will be mailed to the most recent address in your submission, so please make sure it's correct. We don't automatically receive a copy of this Statement, so please keep this safe as it will be needed prior to placement.
