How to apply for an undergraduate degree
An undergraduate degree is the first type of degree you can study. It's also known as a Bachelor's degree (shortened to BA, BSc, or similar).
You'll apply for a full-time, undergraduate degree through UCAS.
You can choose up to five universities/courses when submitting your application. You'll be able to keep track of your application's progress through your UCAS ID number.
If you've applied by the UCAS deadline, your offers should start arriving between November and May. There are two types of offers:
- Unconditional offer: You've met all the entry requirements for your chosen course and you've got a place.
- Conditional offer: We'll keep a place for you and will accept you onto your chosen course once you've met all the entry requirements and have made us your Firm choice.
If you receive one or more offers, you'll need to decide which ones you want to accept. You can make one Firm acceptance (which is your preferred choice) and one Insurance choice. If you accept an unconditional offer, this will automatically decline all other offers.
If you don't meet the conditions of your offers at other institutions, or didn't receive any, you may still be able to secure a place via Clearing.
You can apply through Clearing if:
- You haven’t applied for university yet, but want to start a course in September
- You haven’t previously considered studying with us, but want to join us in September
- You’ve applied for university but not met the conditions of your firm or insurance choice (i.e. you aren’t holding any offers for a place at a university or college)
- You’ve changed your mind about the offer you’re holding at another university or college and want to study with us instead
- You’ve changed your mind about the offer you’re holding with us and want to study a different course
If you're applying to study part-time, you'll complete an online application which can found on the relevant course page.
For full-time courses, apply as usual through UCAS.
For part-time courses, apply directly to your chosen college. You can find college contact details on your chosen course page.
If you already have a degree and want to study a course which is an equivalent or lower level qualification, you’d have Equivalent or Lower Qualifications (ELQ) status.
For example, if you already have an MA and you’d like to return and study a BSc, you’d have ELQ status.
ELQ status is permitted but has visa and financial implications. For example, you may not receive Student Finance funding for the second course. If you’re an international student, you may not be eligible to apply for a student visa.
If you’re self funding and are eligible to study in the UK, you’re welcome to study as many courses as you wish.
