Funded through Research England’s Connecting Capability Fund, Northern Accelerator is a collaborative project in partnership with Newcastle, Durham, Northumbria and Teesside Universities. Norther Accelerator offers academics the opportunity to apply for Feasibility and Proof of Concept funding which can be used to develop their research further towards commercialisation.
University of Sunderland academics who are engaged in research which is potentially commercial, can apply for funding and expert support through the Northern Accelerator project.
Once the research reaches a key stage in the commercial process, the academic, in partnership with the University, can then work to establish a spin out company, which will be the vehicle used to take the research to market.
Northern Accelerator also offers academic training in areas which are essential in the commercialisation of research, such as the understanding of Intellectual Property and Patents, Marketing Strategy and Competitor Analysis, Innovation and Impact, Business Development and Funding Opportunities.
