Award-winning journalist and BBC newsreader, Huw Edwards, visited the University of Sunderland today (Wednesday 19 October) to speak to journalism students – imparting some of his top tips for television, presenting and reporting.

Huw held the masterclass at the David Puttnam Media Centre on Sir Tom Cowie Campus, St Peter’s, the same day the BBC broadcasted shows about the cost of living crisis from a number of venues in the city, including the University's Industry Centre (Institute for Automotive & Manufacturing Advanced Practice)

Carole Watson, Principal Lecturer and Team Leader in Journalism and Communications at the University of Sunderland, said: “Huw is a household name with years of journalistic experience under his belt, most recently announcing The Queen’s death on the BBC.

“So it was wonderful that he took time out during a day of broadcasting from Sunderland to visit our Media Centre and give our students some invaluable advice on their future careers.

“What’s so special about our courses is that our students have these face-to-face extra-curricular masterclasses with some of the biggest names in the industry."
