University of Sunderland students took us down the rabbit hole after performing Alice in Wonderland for their annual pantomime show.
Performed in front of pupils from Redby Academy and Grangetown Primary, first year Performing Arts students put on a show full of songs and dance with costumes, props, sets and music all designed by them.
Since September, students have been rehearsing and creating a show-stopping production as part of their studies.
Charlotte Taylor, who studies Performing Arts at the University and played the Knave of Hearts, said: “Taking part in our production of Alice in Wonderland has been an absolute pleasure.
“Getting to work with new people on this performance has been wonderful, especially getting to learn from our lecturers who kept the pantomime moving forward with their persistent encouragement.
“I’ve loved playing the “panto baddie” and couldn’t be anymore thankful for them giving me the opportunity to do so. I hope everyone enjoyed our show.”
The production also teamed up with animation academics to help create the animated elements of the performance that helped bring Wonderland to life. Rachel Emms, Artistic Director of the production and Programme Leader for BA Performing Arts at the University, said: “The students only met at the end of September, so they’ve learned along the way whilst making friends and learning to collaborate professionally and have worked tirelessly on all aspects of performance. “They have accomplished a brilliant show, and I am sure everyone was entertained.” The production was also led by musical director and academic tutor Andrew Clarence and technical director and University technician Nick Thompson.
