Andrew White, CEO of Chubb Fire & Security, has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration from the University of Sunderland.

Andrew grew up in Roker with his parents Sandra, a market researcher and Charles, who owned his own plumbing business.

After attending Monkwearmouth School, Andrew started an apprenticeship with South Tyneside Marine Technical College in electrical engineering in 1996 at TRW Automotive in Washington, supported through Sunderland Engineering Training Association.

On completing his apprenticeship, Andrew received an Ordinary National Certificate, Higher National Certificate and Higher National Diploma while remaining at the company to become a Senior Project Manager.

In 2003, Andrew transitioned to his first corporate role at Schneider Electric, becoming their Major Projects and Services UK Sales Manager, going on to design and deploy complex electrical systems for end markets such as Data Centres and Critical National Infrastructure.

Andrew then became a member of the Institute of Engineers and Technologists in 2005.

In 2006, Andrew joined the global technology solution company Emerson where he would spend most of his career.

At Emerson, Andrew and his family lived and worked the world in Dubai, Singapore and the US in key Executive Leadership roles to help steer the company’s strategic growth.

Andrew graduated in 2016 with a master’s degree in business administration and management from London Business School.

In 2022, Andrew relocated back to the UK from the USA and was appointed to his current position as CEO of Chubb Fire & Security, a household name for over two centuries, and now part of the global API Group.

As CEO, Andrew now leads a multi-billion-dollar organisation with around 12,500 colleagues who span the globe.

Under his leadership, Chubb Fire & Safety has seen growth in profits for 12 consecutive quarters and has expanded to new geographies reaching previously unserved markets.

Andrew received his honour at the Stadium of Light today (Thursday 10 July) during the University’s Summer Graduation Ceremonies, which he attended with his family.
