A psychology expert from the University of Sunderland will join speakers, including rapper Professor Green, at an event designed specifically to engage men with inclusion and diversity.

Dr Rebecca Owens, Head of the School of Psychology, is one of the keynote speakers at the Masculinity in the Workplace 2025 event taking place today (Wednesday 19 November) at Conway Hall in London.

Marking International Men's Day, the event is designed specifically to engage men with creating inclusive cultures, giving men both the reason and the skills to lean into the conversation, while also providing women and non-binary people with the confidence to engage more men in culture change.

This year’s theme Supporting Boys to Men to Role Models will seek to understand the concerns and barriers that are in the way for boys and men, particularly looking at key inflection points in their lives. It will equip parents, leaders, friends and persons of significance in the lives of young men with the tools for self-reflection, effective role modelling and courageous conversations.

Speakers will share their insights and experiences, shedding light on the evolving dynamics of masculinity, leadership and culture in diverse work environments. Attendees will have the chance to ask questions, participate in interactive sessions, and network with like-minded professionals.

Dr Owens and fellow speaker 15-year-old author Joshua Sargent will explore what evolutionary psychology tells us about the transition from boyhood to manhood, and how that intersects with the online influences shaping young men today.

Dr Owens, who specialises in male psychology, said: "I am so honoured to have been invited to take part in such a fantastic and important event.

"The event represents progress in this area – there is so much work to be done for men and boys beyond just raising awareness but in terms of practical steps to improve mental health and outcomes.

"Events such as this show that people are listening and that there is a willingness to change and improve things for men and boys, so it is such a positive step and a positive message all round, and I am very proud to be part of that."

The event will be hosted by Token Man and The Hobbs Consultancy.
