The University of Sunderland has welcomed eight new members to its Board of Governors who will help shape the University’s life-changing mission.

The University’s Board of Governors is made up of independent members, staff and student representatives, a council representative and the Vice-Chancellor, and oversees the running of the University.

In 2025, a whole host of new Governors have been appointed to the Board, which follows the appointment of Mark Burdon as Chair of the Board of Governors earlier this year.

Mark said: “We are delighted to welcome such a highly experienced and committed group of individuals to the Board. Their collective knowledge and leadership across higher education, industry, finance, healthcare, and local government will be invaluable as we continue to deliver on our mission to be a life-changing university.

“I look forward to working with them as we support the University’s growth and impact, both regionally and globally.”
