A staff survey completed by colleagues across the University of Sunderland has raised more than £1,000 for the NSPCC.
The money was raised through a £1 donation that the University made for every member of staff who completed the 2025 Staff Engagement Survey. Seventy-one percent of staff responded, ensuring their views were heard, and that an important charity, working both locally and nationally, gained vital support.
Hayley Lynn, Community Fundraising Manager at NSPCC, collected the cheque for £1,332 on behalf of the charity.
She said: "Every pound raised helps us reach more children who need someone to listen, support, and protect them.
"This donation from the University will help fund services like Childline, therapeutic support for families, and vital educational workshops in local schools. It’s about giving children a voice and making sure they know they’re not alone."
Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University, Sir David Bell, who presented the cheque, said: "I am delighted that we were able to make such a generous donation to the NSPCC because so many colleagues participated in the 2025 Staff Engagement Survey. It’s the classic definition of win-win’; we get to hear what staff are thinking and the NSPCC receives much-needed funds to continue its vital work."
The NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) is the UK’s leading children’s charity, working tirelessly to protect children and prevent abuse.
Through services like Childline, the NSPCC offers a confidential lifeline for children and young people who need someone to talk to, day or night. The charity also delivers educational workshops in schools, helping children recognise the signs of abuse and empowering them to speak out.
In addition, the NSPCC provides support for families facing challenges, offering guidance and practical help to create safer, more nurturing environments. Every donation helps the NSPCC continue its vital work ensuring that children across the north-east and beyond have the support, protection, and hope they deserve.
