The University of Sunderland has been named Training Provider of the Year by the North East Apprenticeship Awards 2025.
Covering 14 different categories, the North East Apprenticeship Awards recognise the efforts and contributions that apprentices make in the region and amplify the organisations that create those opportunities.
The University has over 900 apprentices on more than 30 apprenticeship pathways, all designed and delivered with 150 employer partners to meet the region’s skills needs.
Sarah Beck, Academic Director of Apprenticeships at the University, said: “We have come so far with the development of apprenticeships provision in the University over the last couple of years and it was fantastic to see everyone’s hard work rewarded with this award.
“Academic staff from all three Faculties plus our dedicated Apprenticeships Team and wider professional services colleagues have all contributed to this success, so it’s a moment for us all to celebrate.
“I am looking forward to seeing our apprenticeships continue to grow and develop – and having this external recognition in the region is an important part of that.”
Utilising innovative approaches to teaching and learning, the University’s apprenticeship programmes cover multiple sectors including healthcare, engineering, digital technology, public sector, teaching and youth work.
Working closely with employers, the University’s apprenticeships ensure that learners have access to personalised tutorial support and profession-facing teaching to help develop their careers both in and out of the classroom.
