Among the accolades the University of Sunderland has won over the past year, its latest ranking is by far the most festive.
The University has been named the most festive HE institution in England according to Unifresher’s Most Festive Universities in the UK 2025 rankings.
The University ranked third overall in the UK and was named the most festive university outside of Scotland, as Abertay University and the University of Dundee took the top two spaces.

From snowy campuses to cities packed with Christmas markets and ice-skating rinks, this year’s list highlights the places bringing maximum cheer to student life.
Over the festive season, staff and students can get involved in a range of activities across the University of Sunderland.
YourSU, the University’s Students’ Union, is hosting a range of festive events which include bringing reindeer back to St. Peter’s Campus on Tuesday 25 November and Thursday 27 November.
Kickstart December with the University’s annual carol service at Sunderland Minster on Monday 1 December at 5:30pm. Staff, students and their friends and family can join University Chaplain Reverend Chris Howson for an evening full of song, mulled wine and mince pies.
