The Campus Security crime prevention campaign for December has proven popular with students. The campaign focuses on personal safety and securing personal property for those going home during the Christmas break. The team engaged with students on both campuses, Clanny House and Panns Bank / Scotia Quay to spread the important security messages. This included a survey in which almost 100 students completed, capturing important data to understand how well our reach is in terms of marketing, what issues impact student safety on campus and what security issues students would like to see us tackle in future campaigns. Dr Nicola Roberts, Associate Professor of Criminology at the University is leading the research with Campus Security to evaluate their practices throughout the year.

When the surveys are collated and analysed, the data will shape future Campus Security campaigns which run throughout the academic year. These are: from the annual freshers’ security operation in September the team hold engagement events with students in October, December, February, April, and June. Look out for future events on the UOS and USSU social media channels, come meet the team, complete the survey, and talk to us about how we can help you feel safe on campus.
