Having spent 14 years as a teacher and school leader before moving into educational research in higher education, Dr Elizabeth Hidson is delighted to have contributed to editing and writing for the ninth edition of Learning to Teach in the Secondary School: A Companion to School Experience, published today (29th July, 2022) by Routledge. The book is the market-leading textbook for beginning teachers on all undergraduate, postgraduate and school-based routes to QTS.

Elizabeth is also a co-author of one of the chapters in the book, where she and Professor Marilyn Leask write about pedagogy as the science, craft and performance of teaching (Chapter 5.9). Elizabeth’s research interests stem from her fascination with pedagogies: her doctoral thesis explored challenges to pedagogical content knowledge stemming from the 2014 curriculum change from ICT to Computing as a school subject.

The ebook version of the volume is already available from the university library and a useful companion website will be available from September.

Dr Elizabeth Hidson is a senior lecturer in the international initial teacher training team in the Faculty of Education and Society here at the university. View Elizabeth’s staff profile.
