In this module, you’ll explore why critical thinking is such an important part of education and professional practice. You’ll learn how critical thinking and analysis help people become reflective, informed, and effective professionals. How do we question ideas, evaluate evidence, and develop stronger arguments? You’ll build skills in self-assessment, mental flexibility, creativity, interpretation, and reasoning. By the end, you’ll be able to analyse information, challenge assumptions, and develop well-supported ideas and arguments.

In this module, you’ll explore how educational research is planned, carried out, and shared. You’ll learn about the full research process. This includes design, data collection, analysis, and managing information using digital tools. You’ll also explore how to carry out literature reviews, write for academic audiences, and understand the ethical and political issues linked to educational research. How do researchers make sure their work is reliable, fair, and meaningful? You’ll engage with current debates and different theoretical perspectives in education research. You’ll also design and evaluate your own research tools. This is while developing your ability to critically analyse academic literature in depth.

In this module, you’ll complete a substantial piece of independent research within your chosen area of study. You’ll investigate a research question linked to your specialist route. This builds on the proposal you developed in the Research Methods in Education module.

In this module, you’ll explore the principles, theories, and models behind coaching, guidance, and mentoring. You’ll examine how these approaches can support teaching, learning, and personal development. How do strong learning relationships help people grow and succeed? You’ll develop practical skills and the personal qualities that support effective communication and trust. You’ll also learn how to apply these skills in your own professional practice. This is while building supportive relationships in both personal and professional settings. By the end, you’ll have a deeper understanding of how to encourage confidence, development, and potential in learners.

In this module, you’ll critically explore different leadership models. You'll examine how leadership is shaped by the culture and micropolitics of organisations. You’ll also reflect on the personal and professional development of strategic leaders and consider how values, motivations, and goals influence leadership identity. What makes an effective leader in different organisational settings? Through critical reflection, you’ll develop greater interpersonal awareness. You'll also evaluate your own leadership style and its impact on others. You’ll explore how leadership approaches can affect teams, relationships, and organisational culture. This helps you build a deeper understanding of strategic leadership in practice.

In this module, you’ll explore the key factors that shape curriculum development in Britain and around the world. You’ll develop theoretical and practical understanding of how curricula are designed, adapted, and developed over time. How do decisions about the curriculum affect teaching, learning, and inclusion? You’ll critically examine how curriculum choices can influence progress, achievement, and access to education for different learners. The module also explores how research and data can be used to improve practice and help educators choose the most effective teaching approaches for specific subject areas. By the end, you’ll have deeper knowledge of curriculum design. You'll also understand the role it plays in creating inclusive and effective learning experiences.

In this module, you’ll explore gender and diversity in relation to inclusive and representative education for all learners. This includes both transgender and cisgender children. You’ll examine how schools and educators can create supportive learning environments that reflect and respect different identities and experiences. How can education become more inclusive for every student? Throughout the module, you’ll develop your reflective and analytical skills. This will help you respond thoughtfully to a fast-changing and evolving area of education. You’ll also build the knowledge and practical skills needed to develop inclusive teaching approaches. You'll learn how to create learning environments where every student feels represented, supported, and valued.

In this module, you’ll explore different viewpoints relating to inclusive education for a wide range of learners. You’ll investigate the background to current debates around inclusion. You'll then examine how these discussions are shaped by legislation and educational policy. What does 'inclusion' really mean in practice? In this module, you’ll explore how to support and work with children, young people, families, and professionals in the area of social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH). You’ll examine different models of mental health and wellbeing. This includes how diagnosis and treatment approaches can affect life experiences and outcomes. How can schools and support services help children thrive? The module also looks at the rights and needs of children with SEMH difficulties. This includes the impact of childhood adversity and trauma. You’ll explore how school policies and practices can support participation, learning, and inclusion. This is while helping to reduce the risk of school exclusion. By the end, you’ll have deeper knowledge of the challenges children and families may face. You'll also understand the ways professionals can provide effective, inclusive, support.

You’ll examine how factors such as government policy, adverse childhood experiences, and everyday practice within health, education, and care settings can affect participation and learning. What helps create inclusive environments and what can create barriers? The module also looks at the importance of evidence-based knowledge and skills for those working in SEND. You’ll explore how co-production with caregivers, learners with SEND, and professional organisations can help improve participation, wellbeing, and outcomes across different stages of life. You’ll focus on how to transfer your skills effectively into further study and the workplace. This will strengthen your confidence as a reflective and adaptable professional.
