Course summary

Are you ready to advance your career in global business? The MSc International Business Management degree is designed to equip you with the skills and insight needed to succeed in a fast-paced, interconnected world. You’ll develop a critical understanding of international trade, business strategy, and global markets, which will prepare you for leadership roles across a wide range of industries.

You’ll study key areas such as:

  • International trade and strategic management
  • Business analytics and marketing
  • Cross-cultural and global leadership
  • Strategic foresight and decision-making.

In your final project, you’ll complete a dissertation on an international business management topic of your choice, supported by expert academic guidance.

Learning goes beyond the classroom. You’ll hear directly from industry leaders through our guest speaker series, where past speakers have included senior professionals from Nissan, Warner Bros UK, John Sisk & Son, Sunderland AFC, and a range of successful entrepreneurs.

Our graduates have gone on to work for major global companies including Microsoft, IBM, Nike, Adidas, Procter & Gamble, Lloyds Bank, Marriott Hotels, and the NHS.

Sunderland is a great place to study, and the staff are very supportive. I’ve secured a job at one of the "Big Four" consulting firms in the world, and I did so with guidance from the Employability and Enterprise Hub, my mentorship, and SuPA experience.

What you'll study

Modules

Many of our courses include a range of modules you can choose from. Some of these options may only be available if you’ve already studied specific required modules. If you’re not sure what you need before picking a module, your course leader can help.

Postgraduate module credits should total 180. If optional modules are available alongside core modules on your course, you should choose an amount that totals 180 credits.

How you'll learn

A range of teaching and learning methods including lectures, seminars, and group work will be used to encourage you to develop intellectual and cognitive skills. All methods will employ, to some extent, the features like didactic exposition, interactive sessions, research, and directed private study.

Case study based learning is employed throughout the course and is intended to enable you to develop the ability to identify the issues in need of research, apply subject specific knowledge to a realistic and/or practical context, make critical judgements of the merits of a particular argument, and present and make reasoned choices between alternative solutions.

The case studies may take the form of real cases or issues in debate at any given moment in time, or may be hypothetical problems reflective of realistic problems.

Compared to an undergraduate course, you'll find that this master's degree requires a higher level of independent reading and research.
