Whether you want to compete at a high level or just play for fun, Team Sunderland are here to help you get the most out of your university experience.

What is Team Sunderland?

Team Sunderland are one of the student services brought to you by the University's Student Journey Team, here to support you with your participation in sport and exercise.

We offer a wide range of sporting opportunities across the University. Team Sunderland look after over 30 sports clubs and teams that compete both nationally and locally. They oversee the management of community outreach, elite and performance sport, participation and many other projects.

Our events

We hold some of the biggest and best events of the year at Sunderland. Sports Ball, Clash of the Minsters and Freshers Fair to name a few. This is more than sport, it's friendship, fun and memories to last a life time!

Want to join a club?

We have over 20 sports teams competing in BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) leagues every Wednesday as well as other competitions throughout the year.

All clubs provide weekly training sessions led by qualified coaches, transport (where relevant) and equipment.

Club membership prices range from £70 - £95.

What else do Team Sunderland offer?

The Team Sunderland Elite Athlete Scheme is available for student athletes performing at an advanced level, providing financial support and opportunities for personal development.

The US Active scheme is for those of you just wanting to participate in sport for fun without any competition. This involves lots of cool events like water sports and lunch time runs around the city.
