Overview

This short course will cover how we age and the issues we face, including some of the common conditions seen in older people and health promotion to support ‘wellness’. Cultural bias and personal values will also be explored.

This course can be completed at both level 6 and level 7.

Why us?

This course has been created and delivered by practitioners who specialise within their area of nursing. Years of experience and knowledge have provided a great interest from practitioners in wanting to attend our courses

Based in The John Dawson Sciences Complex which contains the Living Lab, an integrated facility, supported with IT connectivity that enables a range of patient journeys and scenarios to be modelled

Course structure

This course is delivered face-to-face at our city campus. It will take place across five sessions over ten weeks. The course can be completed at both an undergraduate and postgraduate level. You will be assessed through a 3,500 word essay.

Topics covered include:

National policy, legislation and research developments in care of the older person 
Safeguarding, Mental Capacity and Elder Abuse 
The importance of multidisciplinary input and collaborative working 
Promoting ‘wellness’ and providing an appropriate environment and meaningful activity 
Supporting the carer by utilising partnership working and voluntary agencies/societies 
Issues in ageing: Osteoporosis, Falls, Delirium and Dementia, and Parkinson’s Disease 
Telehealth

Our Clinical Skills Suite is equipped with a range of clinical equipment for training health professionals. The cutting-edge equipment is backed up with excellent IT facilities and helpful IT support staff.

We’ve got thousands of relevant books and e-books, with many more titles available through the inter-library loan service. We also subscribe to a comprehensive range of print and electronic journals so you can access the most reliable and up-to- date academic and industry articles. There are nearly 9,000 journal titles, mostly in electronic format.

Facilities

This course is based in The John Dawson Sciences Complex on City Campus, which boasts excellent facilities and cutting-edge equipment thanks to multi-million-pound investments.

This course is aimed at registered health professionals who have studied at Level 5 and above.

Fees and finance

The fee for this course is tbc.
