Overview
This course is designed for new or established leaders who wish to enhance their leadership effectiveness, by developing the knowledge, skills, behaviours and attitudes required to be effective in a leadership role and lay the foundation for development into more senior roles.
This course comprises 300 total learning hours, made up of:
- Independent Learning – 98 hours
- Seminar/workshops – 36 hours
- Work based learning – 166 hours
This postgraduate level course will be delivered as six full days teaching, one day per month for 6 months, and the content will include:

- 4 Sep 25 (Day one): Welcome to course, needs and aspirations of the group, learning resources, introduction to the assessment, critical thinking skills
- 9 Oct 25 (Day two): Leadership. Organisation context, leadership and leader identity, behavioural preferences, personal values inventory, and leader effectiveness.
- 16 Oct 25 (Day three): Performance management, goal setting and managing underperformance, difficult conversations, coaching.
- 13 Nov 25 (Day four): Team dysfunctions and building effective teams.
- 11 Dec 25 (Day 5): Change and change management, achieving change, the leader’s role in implementing change
- 8 Jan 25 (Day six): Assessment building.
The course provides 30 Level 7 credits that can be used in combination with related courses towards the achievement of a full Masters qualification, possibly through the University’s Customised Awards Scheme. The University offers a variety of related postgraduate courses to help you to achieve this, including postgraduate diplomas in Strategic Leadership, and a Work-Based Project.
