Overview

The content of the sessions will be based around our Five Foundation Concepts which link directly to the Teachers’ Standards. Live, online sessions will allow staff to engage with the students and provide interesting insights into teaching and share their passion.

The course will give students an introduction to the responsibilities of a teacher, with short tasks providing the opportunity for students to reflect on what they see in a school context.

The final session will provide an opportunity to showcase our PGCE provision, the wide variety of courses offered and the flexibility within these. During the one-to-one tutorial, students will discuss their reflections and considerations about a career in teaching. Tutors will provide support in preparing for an interview for a PGCE.

Course structure

The course will be 12 weeks in duration, with a one-hour session each week. There will be six recorded sessions and six online live sessions with the School of Education staff, as well as a one-hour tutorial. The content of the sessions will be based around our Five Foundation Concepts which link directly to the Teachers’ Standards.

Please note this course is non-accredited. There are 30 places available on this course.

You can access free Wi-Fi throughout the University campus, so you can work from anywhere. If you don't want to carry a laptop around, just use one of the University’s PCs or Macs. We have hundreds of computers for you to use in the Murray Library, St Peter's Library, and the David Goldman Informatics Centre. If you ever have any technical problems, just ask the friendly helpdesk team.
IT provision
We’ve got thousands of relevant books and e-books, with many more titles available through the inter-library loan service. We also subscribe to a comprehensive range of print and electronic journals so you can access the most reliable and up-to- date academic and industry articles. There are nearly 9,000 journal titles, mostly in electronic format.

The cohort size for this course is a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 30.

Fees and finance

The fee for this course is £500 per person.
