At first I was nervous about joining the University but after talking to the lecturers at the open day, I could clearly see how passionate they were about their subject. The facilities were also a really big decision maker for me; the recently renovated sport science facilities and buildings provided a modern learning environment. The vast amount of sports clubs that Team Sunderland provide also aided my decision as it meant I could continue to play netball alongside my studies.
My favourite part of the course is being able to implement my passion for netball into my work. There is limited research regarding performance analysis within netball so it has been great working with the lecturers to design my own analysis application which can be implemented into all levels of netball.
The university experience at the University of Sunderland is extremely unique, no two lectures are ever the same. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and will always be on hand to assist you no matter when or where. It truly is a life changing experience.
My advice for anyone wanting to study this degree is to throw yourself into all of the lectures including the practical sessions, it’s the best way to develop your knowledge and understanding of the subject. Also, joining a sports team during university is amazing not only for your physical health but also your mental health. The university is incredible for your personal development, with course numbers being smaller than many other universities the experience is made more personal by the lecturers.
After I graduate my career aim is to work within either a professional netball or rugby league team focussing on the performing analysis of the team.”
