Course summary

This course focuses on the practical skills outlined in the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD)(opens in new tab) Professional Map.

Compared to our core BA (Hons) Business and Management course, there's a greater focus on how to inspire and develop people in an effective way. You'll gain the necessary skills to manage the evolving function of HR (including modern, individualised contractual employment relationships that are often managed remotely and digitally) in an authentic, transparent, and ethical manner.

We prioritise employability across all years of the course. This helps you strengthen six key essential attributes needed by the world today, being:

  • Capable
  • Enquiring
  • Creative
  • Enterprising
  • Ethical
  • Global in outlook.

You'll understand how businesses create success, how to manage business operations, how to make informed decisions, and how to lead change in organisations. CIPD-accredited qualifications can also enhance your career opportunities in a significant way.

Why Sunderland for Business and Management
Lauren Scott

The best aspect of the course is the 48-week paid industrial placement. I learnt more than I could ever have imagined and it set me up for the rest of my career as I was offered a graduate role as Recruitment Specialist back at Caterpillar.
