Course summary

Prepare for a role as a healthcare science practitioner in NHS audiology. Develop clinical skills in the assessment, management, and therapeutic rehabilitation of patients with hearing and associated disorders.

This course will prepare you for a role as a healthcare science practitioner in NHS audiology. You'll study the underpinning knowledge required while developing your clinical skills. You'll also complete a mandatory integrated clinical placement. The placement will be a minimum of 50 weeks, across the three years of the course in an NHS audiology department.

While you study, you'll have access to a wide range of audiological clinical and simulation equipment. This will help you build your knowledge and understanding of clinical competency development. Your teaching staff are qualified audiologists with a background in NHS. This means you'll learn the most up-to-date clinical theory and practice

Successful completion of this course will enable you to be eligible for professional registration and suitable for NHS employment as a Healthcare Science Practitioner in Audiology. Audiology professionals can work in a variety of settings including hospitals and carry out a wide range of duties. Audiology is a fast-evolving and varied discipline. A desire to work with and help people is essential and forms an important component of both training and the job. There are excellent employment opportunities within NHS clinical practice.

What you'll study

Undergraduate module credits should total 120 credits per academic year. If optional modules are available alongside core modules on your course, you should choose an amount that totals 120 credits.

How you'll learn

Most of your learning will be online, with a one week block attendance on campus each semester. You'll learn through:

  • Traditional lectures
  • Interactive laboratory and simulation practical sessions
  • Seminars
  • Workshops, including verbal presentations and posters, group work, case-based learning, directed learning, and research project supervision

You'll develop your audiological competency through your integrated clinical placement. This will be within an approved NHS training department.

Your assessment methods include exams, assignments, essays, and presentations. Another assessment will be through the submission of clinical competency logbooks. These will include evidence collected during your clinical placements.

Undergraduate fees are set according to rules from Government in line with forecast inflation. The fee for your first year of study for 2026/27 will be £9,535. You'll pay tuition fees for every year of study. Fees may increase every year based on the Retail Price Index.
