Course summary

If you want to inspire young people to lead active, healthy lives through a career in PE teaching, the BSc (Hons) Physical Education with QTS is a fast-track, three-year degree that qualifies you to teach PE in secondary schools. If you’re passionate about sport and fitness and want to help young people build physical confidence and competence, this course is for you.

You’ll combine hands-on school placements with academic study, spending at least 120 days in schools and colleges to gain real-world teaching experience. You’ll explore the science behind physical education, apply theory through practical activities, and develop your teaching skills with support from expert tutors and strong school partnerships.

You’ll also have opportunities to enhance your CV through workshops, masterclasses, and optional qualifications from organisations like the Football Association and England Cricket Board (subject to availability).

On successful completion, you’ll graduate with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), ready to teach in state-maintained schools across England, where demand for PE teachers is high.

What you'll study

Many of our courses include a range of modules you can choose from. Some of these options may only be available if you’ve already studied specific required modules. If you’re not sure what you need before picking a module, your course leader can help.

Undergraduate module credits should total 120 credits per academic year. If optional modules are available alongside core modules on your course, you should choose an amount that totals 120 credits.

How you'll learn

This PE teaching course is taught via a mix of practical sessions, lectures, seminars, and workshops, as well as project and individual work.

You'll also undertake placements within a school which will enable you to get valuable hands-on experience to prepare you for becoming a PE teacher. Placements are available within both primary and secondary school settings.

Your progress will be assessed with project work, practical assessments, essays, and observed placements.
