About Dr Aimee Kibondo
I am a Senior Lecturer in Bioscience. I graduated with a BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences and a PhD in Immunology from the University of Sunderland.
My doctoral research focused on evaluating the role of heparinoids as immune modulators of organ preservation solutions.
I have held previous positions as a Research Assistant, Research Associate, and Academic Tutor.
In 2021, I completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PgCert) and I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Teaching and supervision
I teach BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science.
I am module leader for Microbes and Host Defences (HCS114) and Clinical and Professional Practice (HCS106).
I supervise students for stage 2 dissertations, stage 3 undergraduate research projects, and postgraduate projects (MSc Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical Formulations).
I am currently co-supervisor for PhD in Nursing and Health Sciences.
Interests
My research interests are in the areas of inflammation and Ischaemia-Reperfusion Injury. I am also interested in the characterisation and identification of microorganisms.
Research
I am interested in investigating the various mediators of inflammation, mainly those involved in the processes leading to Ischaemia-Reperfusion Injury. My other area of interest is the characterisation and identification of microorganisms.
