About Samantha Tate
I taught for 15 years in secondary schools before arriving at the University and have held both pastoral and subject-specific posts. In addition to my work as a teacher and lecturer, I have been an examiner for KS3, GCSE and A Level Mathematics.
Teaching and supervision
I currently teach:
- BSc (Hons) Mathematics Education with QTS
- BSc (Hons) Physical Education with QTS
- BA (Hons) Education Studies.
I am module leader for:
- Development of research and scholarship
- Curriculum Studies 2
- Experiential placement 2
- Understanding STEM
- Negotiated individual study in education
- Advancing Subject Knowledge and Pedagogy (Mathematics).
Interests
I usually supervise dissertation students with mathematics related themes such as maths anxiety, dyscalculia and girls in STEM subjects.
Research
I am interested in mathematics education and the particular issues that arise for women in STEM subjects and learners with SEND. I am passionate about tackling maths anxiety in learners of all ages.
