Senior Lecturer in Healthcare Sciences (Cardiac Physiology)

I am a Senior Lecturer in Physiology, specialising in Cardiac and Respiratory Physiology at the University of Sunderland.

Alongside university and education, my background is in Clinical Cardiology. I have 30 years' service and experience within Cardiology in the NHS as a Senior Cardiac Physiologist working in several hospital Trusts throughout the North East of England since 1991, and as Cardiology Service Manager for six years. I hold a degree and masters qualification in Advanced Clinical Cardiology and hold a professional accreditation in cardiac ultrasound – echocardiography (BSE).

I maintain my clinical skills and knowledge by performing regular clinical cardiac ultrasound sessions to a range of patients in a busy NHS Cardiology Department in our region.

This range of clinical experience and continued professional practice allows me to stay current, engage with clinical and professional practice, which I can transfer into my teaching.

Currently I teach on BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science – Cardiac Physiology and support clinical placements as a placement link tutor.

I am module leader for HCS109, HCS110, HCS233 and HCS338 and support teaching Cardiac Physiology on BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science.

I also support the Medical School teaching cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography).

My area of expertise within the NHS setting is in cardiac ultrasound – Echocardiography.
