Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences

Having moved from the NHS in February 2021, I hope to continue my interests in training and mentoring. My recent research interests include the use of molecular methods in blood transfusion and the relationship between blood groups and disease states.

Teaching and supervision

I specialise in haematology and blood transfusion. I am also involved in supporting student placements and apprenticeships.

Research interests for potential research students

I remain interested in anything related to haematology and blood transfusion, including the relationships between blood groups and disease states, and the application of molecular methods.

Research

I have previously been involved in research around the characterisation and behaviour of particular red cell alloantibodies, the effects of pan-reactive autoantibodes in autoimmune haemolytic anaemia cases, and the use of molecular typing methods in transfusion.

I have had multiple papers published in Transfusion Medicine and Immunohaematology journals.

  • Haematology
  • Transfusion
  • Molecular methods in blood transfusion

I am a member of the IBMS Special Advisory Panel for Transfusion and I am the IBMS Deputy Chief Examiner for Transfusion. I am a member of the NEQAS Blood Transfusion Laboratory Practice steering committee as the educational establishment representative. I remain an honorary scientific consultant at NHS Blood and Transplant, and a HCPC registered biomedical scientist.
