Research

My research interests focus on both film and television with particular focus on the following:

  • Continuing drama production working in pre-production, production and post-production
  • Script to screen performance of characters and directing with multiple camera units
  • Post production workflows in visual edit and sound mixing
  • Screen Performance on continuing drama and film
  • Avid Certified Instructor Training and exam for Media Composer
  • D-Prof –  stage to screen

As a media professional I have continued to work within production as I believe this is essential for academics teaching practical modules. It helps keep my skill set up to date with the current trends in industry and transfer them to the classroom.

I am an AVID ACI (Avid Certified Instructor), my role requires me to keep up to date with certification and professional practice not just in the UK but around the world to allow me to deliver industry standard authorised training.

As a member of the ACI group I am frequently required to attend webinars with other ACIs from the around the world.

Recent webinars include Stranger Things (Post-Production Team), Star Wars (Behind the Scenes with Bad Robot) and Star Trek into Darkness.

My areas of expertise include:

  • Broadcast and Film production specialising in post-production
  • Media Workflow
  • Colour Grading
  • Compositing
  • Multi-Camera Studio Operation
  • Multi-Camera Location Techniques
  • On screen Directing
  • Production Management
  • Multi-Camera Live Performance

I have also worked on the Royal Television Society Young Persons Media Festival as a committee member and chair of the judging panels for over ten years.

From 2007-2010 I was media project manager for Media Focus, a production company formed within the department to work as a commercial production company. I took the role to run a project for the media department called “The Northern Way”. My role was to design and deliver a series of workshops for SMEs along with consultancy, commercial production, facilities hire and CPD training.
