Lecturer in Children's and Young People's Nursing Practice

I am registered with the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) as a children’s nurse and have a background in intensive care. I qualified in 2003 and have worked in several Paediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU) in the UK and Australia. In 2016 I decided to have a change of scene and moved into Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU), based on the level 3 unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

I have always enjoyed working alongside student nurses and newly qualified nurses, helping to build confidence, knowledge, and clinical skills at the patient bedside as well as in classroom and simulation settings. I have worked as a clinical educator in both PICU and NICU.

I joined the University of Sunderland in 2023 as a Lecturer in the Children and Young People’s Nursing Team. The role has allowed me to teach across all fields of nursing practice, midwifery, and paramedic science.

I currently lead modules in the second and third year of BSc (Hons) Children's and Young People's Nursing Practice and assist with teaching other modules.
