Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer in Children's and Young People's Nursing Practice

I am a qualified paediatric nurse with 20 years of experience working across hospital trusts across the north-east. I have cared for children in both acute admission wards, and the regional paediatric renal and gastro ward at the Great North Children's Hospital. Before joining the University of Sunderland, I worked at CDDFT as a Practice Placement Facilitator, supporting students and their supervisors/ assessors while on placement.

Teaching and supervision

I teach across all three years of BSc (Hons) Children's and Young People's Nursing Practice and I'm module leader for Leadership and Interprofessional Learning.

I originally joined the University as a Senior Lecturer in Professional Practice which saw me work with the pre-reg adult nursing team as the professionalism lead. This involved working alongside the team ensuring professionalism is incorporated throughout the course, as well as teaching students, particularly within their practice placement module.

I continue with my professional practice role and look forward to implementing new methods of teaching professionalism across all branches of undergraduate nursing.

  • Professionalism in nursing and healthcare settings
  • Leadership in the NHS
