Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy

I have taught in higher education for almost 30 years at Coventry University and Teesside University before coming to the University of Sunderland. I currently teach on the pre-registration BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy.

I have developed a number of pre-registration programmes in both undergraduate and postgraduate provisions. In addition, I have developed and taught a number of postgraduate courses. I have also been involved in the development of interprofessional learning and its delivery.

I have worked on student admissions for a number of years and developed innovative strategies for interviews that explored applicants' values and attitudes. This work contributed to my award of Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

I have been involved in international education and exchanges and enjoyed teaching in Malaysia, Sweden, Holland, and Switzerland. I have supervised BSc (Hons), MSc, and Doctoral students as they have undertaken their research and where appropriate, developed that research for conference presentation and publication.

I currently undertake work on behalf of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists, the HCPC, and also support Health Education England in the development of Advanced Clinical Practitioner routes.

Prior to teaching, I worked in the National Health Service as an occupational therapist within residential and community learning disability services. I led a team working with people as they were moved from large facilities into small community homes.
