PGCE Programme Lead, Senior Lecturer in Primary Education

I joined the School of Education and Society in 2019 as a Senior Lecturer across a range of primary education courses. Prior to this, I had 25 years' experience of teaching across a range of first and primary schools in South-East Northumberland, including a year seconded to the Local Authority as a Literacy Lead teacher and most recently 10 years as a Primary Head Teacher.

I believe my experiences across a variety of roles within schools offer me the insight to support trainees in their journey to becoming successful teachers. I have mentored and coached many trainees and teachers, new to the profession, as a mentor and school leader to ensure they receive the best support and challenge in order to improve their own learning and teaching as they establish themselves in the classroom.

I lead the PGCE Primary Education on-campus course for the September cohort supporting students and mentors throughout their training on campus and training in schools. I am also the lead tutor for the Teacher Apprenticeship Programme (Primary). My role allows me to support students on the other school experience phases across the Primary Education undergraduate courses.
