Senior Lecturer in Primary Education
I joined the University in 2020 as a Senior Lecturer in Primary Education. I studied for a PGCE in 2008 and followed this with a Masters in Education which I completed part-time during the first two years of my teaching career.
I have 11 years' experience working as a teacher; from EYFS to Year 6 in different schools both in London and across the North-East. I have mentored many trainee teachers and NQTs within schools and have enjoyed being able to develop this further by supporting students at University of Sunderland.
While working in schools, I was a middle leader and coordinated mathematics across all year groups. I am passionate about the teaching and learning of mathematics for children but also for the teachers delivering this and I particularly enjoy helping others to gain confidence and skills in this subject. I also have an interest in the teaching of foundation subjects, stemming from my undergraduate degree in geography.
I am keen to use my experience and support to enable trainees to become excellent teachers.
