Lecturer in Post Compulsory Education and Training

I am a Lecturer in the PCET team and joined the University in 2019 following 18 years of working in local Further Education (FE) colleges. I've held many roles during this time ranged from teaching, support and management, in a wide variety of contexts, including maths and engineering related subjects.

My final role in FE was Head of Maths having previously occupied roles such Advanced Practitioner (in Engineering), Teaching and Learning Coach and Curriculum Manager for the Engagement Team.

Research

I have a passion for engaging with the most reluctant learners as evidenced in my creation of ‘The Real Project’; an initiative to engage young people in vocationally based subjects and evaluated via my BA (Hons) in Education (2010).

In 2015, I retrained as a FE maths teacher. I am committed to my own professional development, this has enabled me to study on a wide variety of courses including engineering, maths, leadership and management, education and digital technology related subjects.

My current (MPhil) research project is centred on the development of maths teachers with a current working title of...The good, the bad and the ugly of teaching GCSE Maths; an investigation into team development in an environment of continual change.
