Senior Lecturer in Primary Education

I am Programme Leader for BA(Hons) Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). The programme has approximately 300 students across the three years. As the lead on the final year of the programme, I also work closely with my team members who lead the first and second years. I take great pride in the programme we provide and the resilient students who graduate from it.

I bring to my role over 16 years of teaching experience throughout the primary school. My leadership role was that of pastoral support for pupils and staff. I was also a staff governor for over ten years.

Teaching and supervision

I work across a range of the Primary Education programmes, including PGCE.

I am the Science Lead for the Primary Education courses; PGCE and Undergraduate routes. I plan the development of science within both programmes. My role includes delivering engaging science sessions which develop the subject knowledge of students as well as providing them with practical examples of how to teach the subject using a range of pedagogical approaches.

I lead the final school placement on the BA(Hons) Primary Education programme; supporting students and mentors during this placement. My role also allows me to support students on other school placements, including those completing the PGCE programme.

I am a Personal Tutor for groups of trainees across each year of the Undergraduate Primary programme and the PGCE programme. Within this role I support academic and professional development as well as taking a pastoral role.

I interview and assess students applying for the Assessment Only Route into Education.

Research

I am interested in gender issues in science and how as primary school teachers we can encourage girls to consider STEM subjects as potential areas of study or careers. Research into Science Capital is something which interests me greatly in relation to this.
