Lecturer

Having a BA in English Literature paved the way for me to become a teacher of English. I have been teaching for about 20 years, both locally and overseas, to adults and young learners in the UK, Middle East, and China.

After obtaining the Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) in 2012, I moved to the UK and started my MA TESOL at University of Sunderland, graduating with a distinction in 2013. While at university, I was eager to learn more about business and management, so I obtained my second MA in Business Management in 2018.

I have taught and lectured in various courses at including English for Academic Purposes (EAP) since 2013 and Arabic for three years on the former languages scheme. I have also lectured in TESOL at undergraduate level and taught the English Business Studies in-sessional (EBS) which includes EBS 114, EBS 115, EBS 117, and EAP 107. Additionally, I have supervised TESOL and MA Education students' theses.

My extensive experience includes teaching Arabic to Speakers of Other Languages, ESOL, and primarily EAP. Before becoming a full-time lecturer at University of Sunderland, I worked for Huaqiao University in China as a part-time module leader for several online modules, including Public Speaking, Business Writing, Research Methods, and English Reading and Writing.

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

I am passionate about helping students achieve their academic goals and use the knowledge and skills they have gained at university in their lives, particularly in the worlds of business and education. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any assistance or have any questions.

Research

I am interested in the methodology of teaching English grammar, including both deductive and inductive approaches.

I am also interested in teaching practices, learning processes, and designing EAP courses and curriculums.

Currently, I am a part-time PhD student at Cambridge University, and my research interests also extend to evaluating Arabic course books and instructional materials in Arabic as a Foreign Language (AFL) contexts.

  • English for Business Studies (EBS)
  • English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
  • Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
