Senior Lecturer in Tourism and Events

I teach across all programmes offered at Sunderland in the Tourism, Hospitality and Events department. Before teaching in Higher Education I worked in Further Education and was a section leader of Travel, Tourism and Aviation programmes.

I am a past Teesside University student having grown up in and around Teesside and hold varied areas of academic expertise. My undergraduate degree is in Tourism Management and my Masters is in Human Resource Management.

I have extensive industry work experience to compliment my studies which include; past employments with TUI UK, The National Trust, Scarborough Council and Middlesbrough Football Club as well as some business administrative practice across the educational sector.

Teaching and supervision

I teach across all undergraduate courses in the Tourism, Hospitality and Events department. These include:

I currently teach on the following modules:
  • Research Methods for Tourism, Hospitality and Events
  • Fundamentals of Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure
  • Exploring HR in Hospitality Environments
  • Leadership and Management in the Hospitality Industry

I also supervise on undergraduate and postgraduate major projects.

Research interests for potential research students

Tourism, HR, Leadership, Organisational Behaviour.


I am currently completing a part-time PhD around the changing world of working practices and how these can influence the employment relationship within the aviation sector.
