How do I pay my tuition fees?

Home / Help and advice / Info for international students / Fees and funding / How do I pay my tuition fees?

If you are an international student

When you successfully apply to you will receive an offer letter.

The offer letter will confirm what tuition fee you need to pay in each year, and what scholarships you will receive.

Deposit: If you are a student from outside of the European Union and you need a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS) letter, you must pay a £3,500 deposit.

The deposit must be paid before you can receive your CAS letter and your Student visa. The £3,500 deposit becomes the first part of your tuition fee payment.
You should not pay the deposit until you have received the official offer letter from the University of Sunderland. The letter will contain your applicant number, which you will need in order to pay the deposit.

Full payment: The full tuition fee must be paid on or before the date of your student registration. You will not be able to register or attend any classes before full payment has been received by the University of Sunderland.

If you are an EU student

If you are from a country within the European Union, you can pay your annual tuition fee in full as a single payment, or in instalments of three smaller payments.

  • Deadline for single payment: 31 October
  • Deadlines for three smaller payments: 1 November, 1 February, 1 May

These dates are correct for September intake, if you have any other start date for your course please check your instalment dates in the fees policy.

If your tuition fee is paid by an Official Sponsor

If your tuition fee is paid by official sponsorship or a Government grant, you must provide evidence to the University on or before the date of your student registration.

An example of acceptable evidence is an official letter on your sponsor’s letterhead stationery. If you do not provide evidence you will not be able to register for your course.

If your sponsor is funding less than the full amount of the tuition fee or withdraws the sponsorship during the financial year for any reason, it is your personal responsibility to pay any outstanding amount.

Methods of Payment

Please ensure that you quote the correct name and application number on all tuition fee transactions. You must also read all University Financial Policies before you send any payment.
