Former BBC Radio 1 presenter and University of Sunderland graduate Jordan North is set to become the new host of Capital Breakfast, replacing Roman Kemp.

Earlier this week, Roman announced he is leaving Capital after 10 years, and six years on Breakfast,

Now, Global, owners of Capital, have confirmed that Jordan will become the new host of the primetime Breakfast Show.

He will join his old Radio 1 colleague Chris Stark on the show, along with Sian Welby when he joins Global in April. He will also host Capital’s Summertime Ball in June.

Jordan, who graduated from the University in 2011 with a First Class degree in Media Production, will join four fellow Sunderland graduates who have senior roles at Capital. They are Lee Sevenoaks (Deputy Managing Editor - BA Media Production, 2011), Anthony Kane (Senior Event Manager - BA Media Production, 2014), Thomas Hannett (Senior Network Producer - BA Media Production, 2014) and Calum Hider (Executive Producer - BA Broadcast Journalism, 2012).

The move marks a return to Capital for Jordan, who previously hosted shows on Capital Manchester.

Jordan said: “I am beyond excited to be joining Global and to wake up the nation every morning on Capital - I can't wait to start working with the amazing team here and get stuck in, to create the most fun and entertaining breakfast show. Getting to host Capital Breakfast has always been a dream of mine and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity that I simply couldn’t turn down.”

Starting his radio career on the University’s community station Spark Sunderland, Jordan has also presented on Rock FM, The Hits, Kit Kat Radio, Preston FM before joining BBC Radio 1 in 2014.

He finished second in the 20th series of ITV's I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in 2020 – and was announced as a co-host on the BBC Radio 1 daily drivetime show in 2021, taking over from Nick Grimshaw, alongside fellow presenter, Newcastle-born Vick Hope.

Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing, who's previously hosted shows on the BBC station, will take over Jordan's afternoon slot from March 4.

In July 2023, Jordan received an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Sunderland.

He was presented with the award during the University’s Summer Graduation Ceremonies at the Stadium of Light.
